EDUCATION
Voices of Tolerance invites high school students to make their voices heard about freedom, (in)tolerance and religious diversity. In the program, they become aware that they are part of a diverse and democratic society in which their voices are also important.
The program begins with a visit to Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder. The history of the Attic Church is the starting point for a conversation about tolerance, acceptance and respect in our society today. Aan de hand van interactieve werkvormen nodigen we leerlingen uit om actief naar elkaar te luisteren en hun meningen met elkaar te delen.
After the museum visit, students delve further into this topic during workshops at school. These classes are taught by role models. They address with students themes such as culture, religion, sexual orientation, diversity and dealing with differences.
The program concludes with a high-profile final event. Enthusiastic students from participating schools will gather at Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder, where they will have the opportunity to engage in conversation with influential key figures.
Teaching Materials
To help classes prepare, we have produced a Voices of Tolerance card game in which players invite each other to talk together and get to know each other better. The game comprises 52 questions challenging school pupils to examine various issues more closely and to discuss these together.
For classes that want to explore the subject further we have some additional teaching aids. These are three exercise sheets and three assignments. While these lessons form a series, they can also be used as separate units. If you would like to use these please email us and we’ll send you the relevant material. Although this part of the programme is not essential, it does help prepare the participants for the programme.
