Voices Zine
From March to June, the Voices community worked with Maha Eljak to produce a zine: an independent, self-published magazine. Every week, the young people gathered in this space to create the zine page by page. Here, they experimented with design, content and production. Which stories do they believe should be preserved for the future?
Maha Eljak (b. 2000) is a multidisciplinary artist of Sudanese descent. As a Black Muslim woman, she uses art as a form of resistance and self-expression, challenging dominant narratives and placing her own story at the centre. Her self-published DIY zine Mahazine is a creative explosion of collages, interviews, poetry and photography. Through it, she breaks down stereotypes and offers a platform to underrepresented voices, driven by the need to create space for stories that would otherwise remain untold.

Time capsule on Dam Square
The Voices Community contributed to a time capsule that was buried on Dam Square in Amsterdam on Saturday 13 September 2025. The young people’s work will now form part of history, alongside letters, stories and poems.
We are proud to have been able to give young people a voice. What began as a contribution grew into an urgent manifesto in which we express our hopes for future generations. At the same time, we also wish to issue a warning: history repeats itself. Please learn from our mistakes.
The Voices Zine has been included in the time capsule.
